I’ve been busy cutting out paper hexagon templates while I watch tv. It’s great to do while watching the playoffs. I estimated that I need slightly over 1700 hexagons. Maybe I’m procrastinating, but all I’ve been doing is cutting out hexagons; I haven’t sewn anything together yet. I did buy my background fabric last month, though, so now I don’t really have any excuses.
I’ve decided to practice my paper piecing by working on a Seven Sisters block that I am doing as part of my block of the month club. It’s very refreshing to cut out diamonds, those only take four cuts instead of six! :-)

I planned out my conceptual design while the baby took a nap. It took exactly one nap’s worth. Not bad, eh? It will be queen sized, and it will have 9 rows: 18 stars, 32 rosettes, and 8 semi-circles. (Plus plain white hexagons too numerous to count. Although I’d probably better get an idea so that I can go to the fabric store and get some white material….) My hexagons are going to be .75” on a side. I think that the original inspiration quilt was 0.5” on a side. I may be crazy, but I’m not that crazy!

So, I was thumbing through the book that I did get today, which was on sale for 75% off, and I found a picture of the hexagon quilt-style that I want to make, so all is not lost.
