Tall & Proud of It!! lol 18 months ago

So today I found a website for tall women: VERY COOL!!

Also joined a friendship/dating site for tall people :)

I’m not that tall, but I used to hunch all the time cause I was mostly taller than all my friends!!

I want to embrace & fully LOVE my height & stand proudly & with confidence!! (again) lol
The women on those sites are such great role models!!

Uhh!! - Or, 'What is Good Posture Anyway?'!! 18 months ago

So here is the horrible truth: I’ve tried to ‘improve my posture’ in the last few days & results were BAD!!

Mysterious backache that ‘reappeared’ out of nowhere… ugh…

Thank God I came across this site: http://www.drbookspan.com

“Check during activities to see if you are arching your lower back: When you stand. When you look up. When you reach up. When you carry a load in front like a laundry basket, chair, or baby. When you carry a backpack in back. Check to see if you can pull you shoulders back or drink a glass of water or take a photo without arching your back or leaning your upper body backward. This bad posture is surprisingly, taught in may gyms, or sought after as sexy. It is not. It is unhealthful and injurious bad posture that creates much lower back pain.” http://www.drbookspan.com/AbsArticle.html

A VERY helpful article, if you have any kind of backache pain or problems, especially mysterious/inexplicable ones!! (like me)

The lady behind it all seems quite inspiring too!! meet Dr Bookspan! WOW, I’m impressed!! :)

Yes, I admit, I did crunches too… even though they felt a bit painful for my lower back… But I was sure they were doing ‘something’ for my abs! OoO
http://www.drbookspan.com/BadExercisesArticle.html

The ‘5 Tibetan Exercises’ (that Dad kept on urging me to do) might have done me bad too, cause they include ‘overarching of back’ & I most likely did them wrong!
& yes, my Doc recommended me Yoga (quite advanced-thinking of her!!;)) but some exercises ‘did me bad’ too (& I didn’t do them then lol) – Dr Jolie explains, why!! :)

The good thing is I didn’t exercise that much… I guess;)) lol
Oh, the Holy Simplicity!! of it all…

Soo thankful I ran across her site…!! (if she trained & helped Seals & martial art instructors, I’m pretty sure she can help me a bit as well..:)

I still don’t completely ‘understand’ it (& for example, I have no idea how to sit ‘right’..!! by the PC… yet..) – but what I got from it already helped ease my back pain, so YAY!! :)

I still want to do it 19 months ago

but

not a priority right now

I think when my life is better organized, I will stand taller & more straight as a Nebenresult anyway!!

Oh Gosh 21 months ago

I must start doing this again, more vehemently!!

& take care of the nutrition side better too!!

http://www.ctds.info/scoliosis.html – Excellent site!!

& yup, yoga does seem to be an answer – & a very good one!! (seems my Doc knew what she was talking about!!;))

I wonder if I need a a device with tone alarm for poor posture too? ;)

It's Important, But... Get Rid of Excuses!! 22 months ago

Mom told me a while ago that better posture prevents backache or neckache too.. So that’s why this is especially important..

I haven’t been very good about it, though.. OoO

As my backache generally easened, I started being more lax about it.. hmm…

Will have to do better!!

Archetypes & Solutions 23 months ago

I must currently keep changing my positions: write standing up, or watch TV walking around the room or squatting…

just to avoid the pain. I hope I maintain some of the healthy habits even after my back is properly diagnosed, Xrayed, & generally better.

I realized it just isn’t natural to sit so much as I used to!!!

I’m lucky I didn’t have worse problems before, except for a bit of lordosis!!

Now I will try to go for brisk-walking ‘medieval maiden’/squatting nomad instead of lazy lord sitting in his armchair smoking fat cigars’! ;))

Hopefully it’ll stick!!

Squatting ;) 2 years ago

I had a sore neck after long hours by the computer, so yesterday I tried a radical solution: squatting instead of sitting!

It actually felt muuch better! (for the neck)
Now I wish I had a lower table (to type), but still…
hmm.. maybe I could find a foot-rest or something, & lay my keyboard on it?

Today I’ve been squatting quite a lot.. (relatively speaking) by the PC & I can feel the muscles firm (they are a bit sore, I’m not used to this!!
I can only squat for a short amount of time.. But I’m doing it often.. (compared to ‘just sitting’ on a chair before..)
My neck loves it!
& if I ever choose to give birth it will be in a vertical position, so that’s one of the reasons I want to learn to squat happily! & it’s handy if you’re camping/in the woods & need to.. you know. It’s also firming the muscles that… need to be firmed! lol

So… It’s a win-win-win situation!!
/Hope I do get used to it soon!/

hmm... Status Quo 2 years ago

I’m not really improving on this one – I do the daily walk thing & back exercises daily (still the initial ‘easy’ ones), but I sit behind the PC or on the bed reading a book/playing guitar too much…

I squatted the other day… I’d like to get used to it. But when I don’t watch TV it’s boring, & I don’t have a table low enough to read while squatting or something /wonders if this could be a good thing-?/
And I don’t watch much TV, 2x a week in the evening mainly, & sometimes in the morning…

The PC is really a bad obsession… Now with no Sis in the way to chase me away from it.. hmm.. ?

Alexander's Technique/Feldenkreis 2 years ago

I did a Google search. Apparently a lady has workshops on either Feldenkreis or Alexander’s Technique in the capitol – but is it feasible for me to do this?

Maybe I could call & ask if there’s a weekend or week-long seminar or something?
(& how well my back would have to be to start-?)

Better Posture=Better Eyesight 2 years ago

I actually read in my Better eyesight book that improving posture actually means better eyesights!

I’d really like to check out Alexander’s Technique workshops!
I think they had them in the capitol when I was a student, but didn’t go then…
