Doing It!! But not all of it - yet!!  — 2 months ago

So I’m doing the daily walk & back exercises.. But still haven’t gotten round to bodybuilding, weight-lifting & such!! (though every day I intend to!!)

/Does chugging around Nora Roberts books count?;))/

I have stuff online to check out, but think it’s uhm, a waste of paper to print it out, & I’m not really comfortable with doing-&-watching-online.. (little space here too.. though maybe I could turn around the monitor.. & I always remember when I’m either too sleepy or it’s too late.. hmm..)
I did incorporate squats, some of the days..

Will try to do it tomorrow!! (at least the few that have been recommended to me to start with!)

I keep forgetting about eye exercises too!! OoO
& I’m not sure which yoga poses would work for my back issues..? (so that’s something to be researched too!!)

Couch Potato to Change her Ways... How?!!  — 3 months ago

So I’ve been basically doing the 1x daily walk (except when held hostage by a Nora Roberts book – damn! Sis keeps bringing them home!!) all the way – for 4 months it will be soon, almost – I think… WOW!!

Today I added in walk #2 – it’s 2x walks daily then!! (or 3, if I manage to get there…) I thought it would be terribly boring, but so far I went with Sis (fun sister time – go figure!) & Dad (I learnt all details of the latest church gossip!! LOL)

I got the Xray results for my back yesterday, & while nothing seems as bad yet, things could go seriously bad if I didn’t change my sedentary lifestyle into a more active life…
Soo… This couch potato is gonna have to change her ways, BIG TIME!!

I do find excessive sports a terrible waste of time, but can’t deny I feel MUCH better after the 2nd walk today!!

I keep going for my daily walk… It’s actually the best time of day – my back LOVES it!!

Everything ELSE is painful!! (sleeping, sitting, standing… – if too long, especially. Yuck)

My body was MADE for walking!!!! ;))))

11 weeks!! - It will be 3 months soon!!  — 4 months ago

I had a flare-up of backache previous week (on 30th), so that day I didn’t go for a walk & didn’t do the back exercises… I needed help to get up from bed!! OoO I was terrified!! But once they got me up, I could walk around okay… Thank God!!

It improved, but it’s not 100% okay, so I’m seeing a doctor tomorrow, to hopefully get a MRI scan. Hopefully of the neck area too – it would be lovely!

I did walk every day apart from that day!! Though yesterday it was so cold my eyes ‘froze’ & I only got as far as the hotel & turned back. Today I went the full ‘usual’ distance – it actually feels VERY good to walk!!

(Everything else feels crummy, mainly sitting or standing or sleeping in one position too long. I run the risk of becoming as hyperactive as my friend Amy! – She can’t stand still!!)

Didn’t do back exercises much, at the risk of further damage… Just some mini mini easy ones for the past 2 days or so.

I made a list of 50 things to do standing up even prior to this because I realized I was sitting entirely too much before!! (& still am sometimes!!)

Also realized that back & eye exercises would HAVE to be taught in kindergarten already!! They are so easy to do & can help so much, but it’s so difficult to get into the routine as you’re older – before an injury, & they would be most helpful before that!! – when you’re young, it would just seem as a lotta play!!

Other than that – YEAH, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!

10 weeks now & - uhm, still going!! ;)) YAY!!  — 4 months ago

I only skipped 1 day this week (as opposed to skipping 2 last week) – so YAY!! Improvement!! (& no too fascinating books from the library on purpose!!)

I even went for my walk today – even if Uncle was still visiting & we had fun talking – I got up, got dressed, said bye politely & went off (only to return promptly before he even left!! LOL) – It was cold so I walked briskly!! But with all my gear in place, I wasn’t even cold!! YEAH!!!

I only exercised about 1x/day though, ideally 2x or 3x a day would be better for my back! (But as my back was a bit sore after exercising, I often-times skipped it..)

I found mini-plastic-bottles (my Sis got them for work, she can’t be persuaded to do Zero Waste yet, she’s the rebel) – they seem like ideal ‘weights’ for practising!! Now all I have to do is fill them with water & start exercising!! &, uhm, get a clue first – what sort of exercises to do!!

No eye exercises except from a bit of ‘shoulder shrugs’ & such when necessary, & those included in the ‘back exercises’. I was actually a bit better about this a while ago!!
But I do realize that I look around a lot on my walks (which is supposed to be good for the eyes, & I go without my glasses too – better for breathing underneath a shawl!!;)
If I could only remember it when inside, behind the PC!!

Does anyone else not exercise because being too angry?

It is such a silly thing – Dad & I got into an argument (easy to do when he’s a bit drunk & seems he started with the holiday cheer a bit early this year) & I was soo furious I kept fiddling about the house until it was too dark to go for a walk (it’s icy out there!!)

So I didn’t go for a walk & now my back hurts!! Grr!!!

Maybe I better write on my door ‘If furious, go for a walk’ or something!!!! & also ‘Go for a walk in broad daylight, if freezing!!!!’ I need a ‘tough love’ approach with this!! If I say, ‘Oh, I don’t feel like it’ – I’ll never go!! & I usually feel soo good afterwards!!!

Luckily I did sort out most of my papers, so that’s the good bit about it!!

Okay, I admit: I didn’t go for a walk yesterday & a day before that – freezing weather & snow here, AND the latest Harry Potter book which, uhm, had to be read!!

But my back ached yesterday night & this morning (& my nose felt funny, Mom has a cold/fever), so off I went today after lunch, feeling great & enjoying the snowflakes!! (Just slow tiny snowflakes today! It was a frenzy on Friday – the wind almost took me & my umbrella!)
I met one of the neighbours & we chatted – it was FUN!

Otherwise, been walking every day, feeling extremely healthy!! (maybe one day off inbetween too)
Been doing exercises 1x/day at least… Mostly not more… Because I’m not quite sure everything’s okay with my back.. Could be just the weather too, & not eating 100% right.. Sitting too much..
& oh, the season is coming, the one with yummy food & sweets & such!! OoO

Well, I decided to start doing exercises with weights(self-made from empty plastic bottles) in the New Year but no idea how to start or which exercises to do – with regard to my back! (still not 100% okay)!
Any tips?

Uhm, basically!!

I did back out of it on Tues, & just went to the stores on Wed, but it was extra freezing.. & I have great excuses (the weekly commute to Granny’s, & a silly book by Danielle Steel, called Wanderlust, of all things!! OoO)

I never read Danielle Steel but this was stronger than me, & Granny’s fault exclusively!!

But then I talked with my inner self & practised some tough love: no slippings till today!! Very proud!!

& we still have some most freezing weather ever!!

As for the back exercises, sometimes I only did them 1x/day!
But I added some new ones!
Target: before the walk (ideally in the morning), before driving, before sleep! Eat before driving!!

Also, I did some back/body massage 2x weekly (finally!), so maybe this evens it out some!

Eye exercises: hope I do better next week.. Didn’t do much except from the stuff above..
Been wearing the old glasses most of the time, except when driving (& liked driving at night with the old ones muuch better!!)
Smeared some olive oil on them before going for a walk today, & realized it was probably the Universe’s way of telling me to put them off. So I did ;)

There is a Dark Side to this all, you know!!
If I don’t get to do it, I’m like, in killing mode!! (Especially if PMSing also!! & there is full moon today too! hm)

I still have to make myself to go outside, sometimes, but I gotta do it, you know?!!

Honestly, on Monday, I couldn’t go outside before we went to Granny’s, & it was the first thing to do, as I stepped out of the car! It was dark & cold, but who cares?

And today, I was soo cranky – but all the crankiness disappeared as I got outside, & was more than half over my walk… Soo nice to see my countryside again.. Been missing it all… & the smells.. ;)

It will be 6 weeks now, still doing it, regardless all!!

I am pretty sure if WWIII broke out right now (knock on wood & hope it doesn’t!), I would still be doing it!! Yeah!!
