progress :)

Today it’s been my best day in playing the berimbau! Today I can really feel I’ve made some progress! :) I haven’t been to classes for 3 weeks but instead I was filming myself playing and could see my mistakes, and watching lots of capoeira videos, watching closely how other people play. And I corrected my main mistake – I could finally relax the wrist of the right hand, and it got so much easier to play faster and louder. And now I was playing in front of the big mirror, jumping and dancing, and imagining myself on the stage, he he :)

Practice, practice :)

Now I have my own berimbau and practice as much as I can. It gets better and better every day. I was so happy when I could finally play Iuna, which is my favorite rhythm so far :)

I played it...

I intended to start taking berimbau lessons as soon as I come home from my summer trip but what a luck, it happened earlier! Just by chance I met a Brasilian guy who played the berimbau and had it at home. The next day we went to the beach for a private lesson. I was so happy! I was afraid I wouldn’t even be able to learn how to hold it but it was fine, I learnt how to balance it (more or less :), use the stone and caxixi and play some basic rhythms. My teacher was surprised I never held it in my hands before. My little finger still hurts but my heart sings. It’s amazing I had to come to Sweden to discover Brasilian capoeira and to play the berimbau!..
Now there’s one more thing to add to the list – to have my own berimbau!.. My neighbours will go crazy ‘cause I feel it’s something I can do for hours :)

Magic

Heard the sound of berimbau 2 weeks ago for the first time. Fell in love…
