be a tourist in my own town

I went on a photowalk in Milwaukee today. Camera hanging around me neck, snapping pictures like a madman. While I don’t live in Milwaukee I’m not to far out… so I was sort-of acting like a tourist in my own town. But still not close enough for me to call this complete.

Planning a trip to tour my own town just isn’t going to work well with the sporadic Wisconsin weather. I should have set out in December when the weather was still unusually warm out. Now with snow on the ground and the cold, crisp winds I can’t muster up the energy to tour Waukesha. Who knows, maybe we’ll have a day or two when the weather warms up a bit.

So I’ve been hitting some places around my city acting like a tourist, but I haven’t hit the core of this goal just yet. In my mind being a “tourist in my own town” means me hitting the downtown area, snapping photos, visiting shops, asking people what’s fun to do around town. So until I do that this goal is still open.

...done this today. I think it would have helped to clear my mind a bit. Had I been in the right frame of mind I would have wandered aimlessly through the town and just let the sites take control. Of course I didn’t do that which means I’m still going to need to get out one of these days and do it!!

I think I’m going to need to Shanghai a friend to come with me for this one. As much fun as I think this would be to do alone I know it would be a hundred times better to have someone to come along with me. I just need to figure out who to take along…

I’m putting this one on hold until I get a digital camera (few weeks) so I can go all out as a tourist in my own town. I was thinking that it may even be fun to take this a step further – while I’m out around town I’m going to ask people where the best shops are, where’s a good place to eat, and so on. See what others find interesting in my town and then give them a try.
