I entered a writing competition for a publishing house today. The subject: write your own demise. I really enjoyed the exercise. Not sure if it gets me anything (the top ten get feedback from the editors and the nr 1 gets a writing course and a contract) but it’s good getting back into write mode :)

...I want my firzt story / book to be some grandiose story with meaning and a unique storyline. Especially the unique bit. Every time I strat writing something I think ‘this or that author did it’ and I lose motivation.
At my birthdayparty we got on the subject and some of my friends suggested I should rewrite some of my travelstories. I felt this ‘had been done’ but they (justly) pointed out I shouldn’t care too much about that. Let the editors worry about whether something is worthy to publish.
So, I’ve decided I should just give the rewriting travelstories a try. I got an e-nmail from someplace about becoming a travelwriter and that really is a big dream of mine. An impossible dream probably, but especially those types of dreams are there to be hopelessly pursued.
