how frustrating this goal is. It is because this of all things is what brings me the most personal satisfaction, the most peace, the most fulfillment. Music is a big part of what makes me tick. Not just music itself, but the creating of music, the careful strategizing of the arrangement, the art of mixing, engineering and polishing a particular sound, and the catalyst of lyrics that transforms it all into something meaningful that comes from your soul, and that will hopefully touch someone else.
Ever had an itch that you just can’t scratch, because it’s too far under the surface to reach? That pretty much summarizes it.
The point of frustration is that I have not had time to work on this project – I have had the content for most of it for over 3 years, but have had no time to work on it due to other priorities, namely work, building my house, and others. All in all, in spite of the frustration, I think it will have been worth the wait, because my house will contain the new studio. A goal to aspire to – I guess I should put that in my goals too, even if it is part of the house goal. I have some other dreams relating to the studio, but I’m not sure I’m ready to share them yet…not sure they are really tangible yet. We’ll see.
My first project was completed quite some time ago. I rolled it on a 24 track analog AKAI, and mastered to reel. A decent system I guess, but I had very little to do with the actual production, which burned me even as I recorded it. I guess I felt helpless because I was young and wasn’t paying bill, and was afraid to speak my mind. A lot has changed since then. This project is now happening in my own studio, in the digital domain, and the way I hear it. It is more reflective in nature, both of my own life, the people in it, and of course is filled with expressions of love, awe and wonder to the one who gave me life. I should be able to start working on it again in the new year.
