I had learned how to speak up and was very used to it. Two years ago I found myself in a position in which I was about to speak up regarding staff that were lying about work issues and stealing from clients. They clued in and devised a plan to get me fired. Afterwards, I blamed myself and retreated into my old quiet habits. I found work in an aggressive factory and became more quiet. I found another job, still in a factory, but less aggressive. Last week I finally found my courage and energy to speak up again! Thank God!

Assertive, not aggressive.

I had to get over feeling that speaking up was aggressive. As a shy guy it felt aggressive to speak up. It took a while, but I did learn that I have every right to speak my mind with assertion. Speaking with aggression is when people yell, swear, blame, that type of thing.
