A major change

Take the title literally – I’ve decided to major in Russian and I feel beyond satisfied about my choice! I just love the language, literature, history, and culture so much! I don’t know what I’m going to do with it yet once I learn everything, but there’s plenty of time to decide.

My favorite language

I’ve always had a fascination for foreign languages. I began with Spanish a while ago. I was excited about it until I began to explore other ones. I went on to French, which I found to be very difficult. I wanted to find a language I wanted to study and love at the same time.

When I chose to take Russian, people thought I was insane. I thought the alphabet was a bit intimidating at first, but I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t give up and I didn’t, which I’m so thankful for! I studied Russian for a year, earned perfect grades and I’ve decided that this is the language I will try and learn in its entirety – I want to be able to read, write, and say everything. (Meanwhile, I was taking Korean, but that seemed impossible for me to master.) I love how Russian sounds. Listening to tapes and things online really help me grasp the proper way to pronounce things, although my accent’s a bit off. I can say a few basic sentences fluently and I know a lot of vocabulary.

I’m not in a Russian class now, but I’m hoping that soon, I will be once more. I’m growing impatient, but at the time, it would really help if I studied what I’ve learned so it can stay with me. I’ve tried to motivate myself to review my Russian many times. I’ve written the alphabet over and one time, I began to go over first names and their diminutives. I need to make the time just for my Russian.
