I have completed this challenge! I started off super fast, but the last 50 books or so went really slow. I just got too busy. I was intimitated with this challenge in the beginning but it really wasn’t that difficult. It was good releasing experience for me since I am usually a nervous wild releaser. lol
Although I am a little disapointed that I only have about 7 catches so far. Hopefully I get some more since for me that is the best part of wild releasing books. Good luck to everyone else working on this challenge!!
Apolonia has written 10 entries about this goal
I have released 253 books so far. I thought I would be the first one finished but it looks like I have a serious competitor now, KimKerry. Still only 2 books caught (cry), I hope they are not all ending up in a dumpster somewhere.
Honestly this challenge has been easy for me so far. I think I am motivated to clean out my house. I also think I am being honest with myself about what I really want to read, and what I will have time to read. I also decided to dump most of my hardbacks, they just don’t work for me. I am only keeping ones I REALLY want read.
I’ve released all the books I prepared in advance for this challenge. Now I need to weed through and get rid of books I no longer want to read, books I have duplicates of, and most of the hardbacks, because they are just don’t work for me.
That brings me up to a total of 53 books that are ready to be released. I am going to get started today.
That brings me to a total of 44 books registered and ready to go for this challenge. I can’t wait to get started just to get some of these books out of here.
I decided to try and get ready early for this challenge. I have 30 books registered, journaled and ready to be released as soon as the new year starts.
This is Shaunesay’s challenge, here is the link at Bookcrossing: 2008 Leap Into the Wild 366 Challenge
THE GOAL:
Release 366 books between January 1, 2008 and December 31st 2008. Symbolically one for every day of the Leap Year, but no you do not have to release one per day! LOL! I know I* would never be able to keep up with that, and we want this fun, not stressful!
WHAT COUNTS:
All wild releases of course, any books released for other challenges are fine, as long as you post them to the release thread (to be posted later) for me to see and count.
OBCZ releases count, but must be no more than 1/4th of the total releases (which would be 92). I think that is all I will allow, since the point is to release into the wild. (also in this category, library donations, salvation army, good will, etc. but still no more than 1/4th the total, all combined of this kind)
There is no theme, so any book released is eligible if it falls in one of the first two categories.
Only 366 books, no more, there is no prize for most released, so once you get to 366 I will stop tracking you (and you are eligible for the randomly drawn prizes at that point)
Only books released AFTER you sign up, so yes, you can join later, but your count will start at that point, and anything you’ve released before then will not count, so sign up before 2008 begins!
THE PRIZES:
Grand Prize: 1 person, randomly chosen from all those who have completed the challenge (released 366 books) will win wings for a year- to be awarded January 10th, 2009 (but started when the winner chooses if they already have a set of wings going, or may choose to receive a BC Gift Certificate for the same amount if they prefer)
Second Level Prizes: Yes, Plural! This level will depend on how many people actually finish the challenge! The more who finish, the more of these there will be! Also randomly chosen from all who have completed. Automatically there will be a $10.50 BC Gift Certificate, as long as we have 2 people finish! If 10 people finish, I will toss in another $20.50 BC Gift Certificate. If 20 people finish, I will add on another $10.50 GC, and for every 10 that finish after that. So for example, if 30 people finish, after the Grand Prize winner, there would also be 1 $20.50 GC given away, and 3 $10.50 GC’s given away. You guys are in control of this one by how many people finish!
Third Level Prizes: These will be sets of wings handed out as incentive prizes throughout the year, meaning, on a certain date, I will randomly draw a name from everyone who has reached a certain point in releases. I will announce these as we go ahead of time, so that you can work to get to the necessary number! In general you can only win this once throughout the year, UNLESS you are the only one that has made it that far at that time, but I’d like to reward as many people as I can. :)
Fourth Level Prizes: Something small for EVERYONE that finishes, I’m thinking some kind of commemorative bookmark, but I’m still working on this one. There will definitely be one for everyone who finishes as a recognition and congrats for accomplishing the goal.
ADDED PRIZE:
*Special Mention Prize for the most wild: Since we’re focusing on WILD releasing, I’ve decided to add another $10.50 Bookcrossing GC for the person who releases the most titles with the word “Wild” in them. Embedded is okay, for example “BeWILDer”, also “wild” in other languages, as long as I can find it in a language dictionary/translator, I will allow it. Anyone who participates can win this one, you do not have to have finished the entire 366, though I suspect to have gotten the most, you probably will have released that many, but we’ll see! This prize will be chosen after the Grand Prize Winner, and after the $20.50 GC winner (if that one is earned by the number of challengers who have finished).
SO WHAT DO YOU SAY? WHO’S IN? LET’S GET WILD IN 2008!!!
