become ambidextrous

So, I’ve been doing mostly everything (except writing) with my left on and off for the past year or so. Eating, brushing teeth, computer mouse, you name it. It’s difficult though. Sometimes I think I might never be as dexterous with my left as I am with my right… But then I think back to when I first started, and I notice a major improvement. Of course, I realize now that this is a goal that’s never really completed, but as far as practicality goes, I’m looking at next year for finishing this one.

I’ve been working at this goal for some time now, and doing well. My writing is fluent and mostly neat, but it does take longer with the left. I’ve noticed that I’m better coordinated now, and even more aware, as a result of paying attention to the world according to the relative location of my hands.

My biggest question right now: What the hell is wrong with cutting with the other hand? If it really bothers you, you could always change hands, hence the idea behind ambidextrity ....

I’ve been working, refusing to do nearly anything without switching hands first, and it’s going well. My left-handed cursive is getting neat, and sometimes indistinguishable from my right handed cursive, as long as I pay attention and remember to adjust the page for left-handed writing. Yonder, I have to agree with you, this training has done more for me too, than just give me the ability to use my left hand as well as my right. The difference is now, that I don’t just use my left hand almost as well as my right, I use them both Better. Now I will work on training to perfection, only weeks away from now hopefully I can claim completion.

I have been doing as much as possible to get in to the left handed mindset. Everything, and I mean everything that I can is being done with my left hand. Though I hadn’t practised it, I discovered that my left handed writing has vastly improved. I’m writing ledgible handwriting, though sloppy, at a good rate, even in cursive. Next I guess that I will tune the skills I have obtained. ;)

I’d been practising this for a short while before I joined 43 things, but I’m happy to report that I’m doing well with a left-handed mouse, and improving at most other left handed tasks. I have not practised handwriting, but I’ll get to it…
