be in a play

I performed in a showcase in March and I have decided that this fulfils my goal to be in a play this year.

I loved it and I would love to do more theatre but I also want to achieve some of the other goals on my list and I think I am spread too thinly right now. Work, weight loss, my novel and planning a wedding (not a goal on my list but certainly a major life goal) are the major priorities this year.

The showcase was quite a big production – I acted in scenes from The Crucible and Pygmalion, sang in two songs, and performed in a dance to a tune from Dirty Dancing. There were over 200 people in the audience. So although I originally intended that it would a stepping stone to a full-length play, I think I am justified in declaring the goal complete, rather than giving up.

I do a weekly class of acting, singing and dancing (an hour each) and we are putting together a showcase at the beginning of March. It looks like I will get to be Elizabeth in a scene out of The Crucible, which is a meaty, dramatic role, and Lady Eynsford-Hill in a scene out of Pygmalion, which is a great comic part. I’m not sure yet what we are doing for singing and dancing.

I’m really looking forward to this and then I will look for amateur theatre opportunities in the spring.
