I am really having a time with my foot.

Arthritis. I have simply Got To Figure out how to make this better and not worse.

I bought a heating pad and plan to try it tonight. The heat wraps were helpful. After 4 days of use I had 2 pain free normal walking days. I can’t afford a lifetime of those, so I am hoping the heating pad works just as well or better.

It is very difficult to have such a limited number of steps my foot can do each day.

Kinda Amazing

There are a flight of stairs I descend every month or so. In April I had to go one with my left foot down to the first stair, followed by my right foot down to the same stair. My right foot has to go sideways to avoid pain. Going down a set of stairs is a cumbersome and slow process.

Yesterday I was able to go down those same stairs like a normal person! One foot down to it’s own stair! My right foot was straight!

It was kinda a miracle.

ankle has been painful

the last couple of days. Maybe in a different way. Did I sprain it slightly?

Was at a birthday party last night and when the Croakie was happening there was a song that had ‘jump up, jump back’ when I did those things my ankle screamed in pain.

tonight i broke into the heated ankle wraps. Perhaps it will be better when I wake up in the morning.

Here's a good thing.........

yesterday I had a lot of walking to do. A lot of up and down the stairs too. My toes didn’t cause me a second thought. No pain. No discomfort. Thus, I hereby declare that my broken toes are healed.

Now, this ankle thing. Let’s be realistic. It is a degenerative disease. I is very likely to get a wee bit worse as time goes by.

I think that I am managing my ankle for the level it is at just now. I found the N’aot shoes, while not very professional looking, allow me to walk like a normal person. In fact, while I am thinking about it (and have just gotten paid) I should buy another pair for work.

I am calling this goal done, knowing that if my ankle gets measurably worse the goal will be hauled out for attention.

The excruitating pain of my broken toes is now

simply discomfort. I hope that in another week or so I can start a walking program. I think my toes as well as my ankle will handle it and I have got to get this body moving!

Ouch!

Managed to really smack my toes when I was working around the house. To the point that the smallest two on the foot that has the ankle problem are a wee bit broken.

The all knowledgeable doctor at doc in a box said they don’t do anything to help this heal. It simply takes four to six weeks.

Becuase of the pain I am walking a bit funny. Not so great for my ankle, but….. I really believe all will be well….... some day!

Gracious!

I really thought I had made an entry about Naots. I LOVE these shoes! I bought a pair about three weeks ago. They fit like a glove, have unbelieveable arch support and are button cute! Why, in just a few days I was prancing down my stairs and even ran across the parking lot at work. How cool is that?!

I bought a differnt style and color and I think the first style had a bit better support, but these are still Fabulous. I plan to buy one more pair for work. so i have 2 kinds for work and one kind for play.

These are expensive $162 ~ but….. i can walk, i can walk, i can walk!!!! the footbeds are removeable in case you want to put in your own orthothics. they are made in isreal, and I got them from Zappo’s. whom I love. Free shipping both ways and easy, breezy returns if you get the wrong size to begin with.

Next stop…...... my tread mill (yes!)

The best intentions......

aren’t really liveable. I am not a person that embraces medicines. I don’t like to take them and I am inconsistent about taking them when I do. Thus, I have given a go with my ankle for almost 5 months now, with simply wearing sensible shoes (sigh…....) and simply soldiering on.

Today I began a different approach. The day to day living of walking slowly, with a limp, one foot pointed out to the side, simply isn’t acceptable as an activity of daily living. When I laid in bed this morning I thought “Gosh, even just waking up and not having been on my ankle in hours, the pain is a level 4. I can’t really live day to day all day with a level four pain.”

So, I rooted around and found the prescription for naproxon. My foot doctor had said to take one in the morning and one in the evening for two weeks. (Originally. I did that and at the end of the two weeks my ankle was not cured, but much, much better. I could walk normally, for example.) I took one this morning, and think I will keep up with two a day for the recommended two weeks and see if I can walk properly again. If I can I will cut back to one a day and see if all remains the same.

4 months in

to the whatever kind of spur I have (way to late after a full travel day to remember!) and I don’t have a handle on this much at all. There isn’t a day that is painfree. The dashing from plane to plane was challenging, although I managed.

It may be because I am super tired, but I have taken heavy travel items off my list…........... for now. I don’t see how I could do international travel and the tourist things I dream of until I figure out a way to manage my ankle better.

I’ll keep simply dealing with it daily, but after I buy a single story house maybe I will go back to the doctor and see what kind of options there are for me. Aside from simply dealing with it on my own on a daily basis.

Two hour walking limit

I started walking around Jonesborough at 11 am today. By 1 I had a terrible limp. I stopped and had lunch. Either being off my ankle for 30 minutes or the jolt of cafeen and sugar in my beverage helped it feel a smidgen better.

I have a 3 hour Ghost Walk beginning at 9 tonight, so on the way back to my hotel for a nap I stopped and got a heat wrap and some ibuprofen. I’m not keen on taking medications really, but I may soon quickly become a firm believer of better living through chemistry!

I’ll head up to my room and take the pills, use the heat wrap and have a nap. Hopefully, bewteen all three I won’t have trouble walking with the ghosts tonight.

Hey! I thought ghosts flew!
