work because I want to, not because I have to

...but not the work I’m supposed to be doing. I decided when I chose this goal to define work as “learning, increasing my aptitude in any skill, or otherwise doing something constructive.” I’m always learning but never doing the work I’m supposed to be doing! Homework takes 2x longer because I learn about everything from thermite to the Chavin culture of pre-columbian Peru…

I am approaching this goal. The trick is to start out finding something that really interests you (like a number of songs on an instrument that you play, or a topic with many books out), then start working to learn those things. Once you get into the working-but-not-for-school (or a job), you can transition off to another topic and do that topic for a while…

your interest will still wander, but if you learn to not want to rest after everything you do, you can continue working because you want to.
