Fun exercise! 2 years ago

I was really happen when my gym hosted belly-dance lessons with a local belly-dance teacher. It was a pretty short series with the club and the teacher at odds after the first 3 weeks, so it was pretty short, but I enjoyed myself! We learned some basic moves and did some scarf/veil work in addition to the basics, and I surprised and how much control and what a great ab workout it is! When the series ended, I bought some scarves and videos from a local Egyptian import store near Pike Place market, and I enjoyed doing them up until I found out I was pregnant, and now the sharp, jerky movements are off limits until the baby is born, but it really is a sexy art form, and I’ll probably be using it to get my body back once I have the baby in July.

I just have to try it! 3 years ago

Belly dancing just looks so cool! I was at Pyramid Imports near Pike Place Market with my friend Erin, and as we were walking around inside the store, I saw a GOREGOUS metalic coin belt that made a cute tinkling sound when it moved. I put it on and found some deep red scarves, and I just knew I had to at least try taking belly dancing lessons. Erin and I were going to do it together because she too thought it would be a cool way to get some dancing into her normal routing (she is just an INCREDIBLE dancer), but now it looks like I’m flying solo on this one! I can’t wait till my next payday so I can take some introductory classes. It sounds like it would be fun, the costumes are cool, and, from what I’ve heard, it’s quite a workout!

So far, the hardest thing I’ve been faced with in trying to accomplish this goal is finding someone who offers classes somewhat close to my place of residence. I don’t want to have to drive to Seattle during rush hour, waste 30 minutes trying to fight for a parking space, and have to pay for parking (all in loose change) on top of it all. Not worth the hassle. I’ve been trying to contact a few independent belly dancing teachers who have satelite stuidos closer to where I live (maybe hosting classes out of a community center or a rented room or something), and I’m just waiting for bites to come back. So far, I’m considering the following teachers as they have the location and class offereings that I am interested in:

A very reputable teacher who has a satalite class in South Bellevue and Issaquah.

I will post more as I hear back from them, and I will let you know all about my adventures in belly dancing when I try it! :)
