Well, I confess to being a high school teacher who is not quite ready to give up the summer sun. That’s because I don’t want to get back in to the stress. I honestly believe that I do as much work in 10 months as most people do in a regular 12 months. Plus, I’ve never “done nothing” during the summer. I’ve done a master’s program, writing project, taught, and I’m in a new master’s program.
But things need to be different this year. My health needs to be #1. Despite exercising and playing soccer, my weight has gone steadilty up in the 8 years I’ve been teaching and I think it’s because of stress and that cortisol thing.
This year, I have my OWN place that I love. It’s less of a commute and I am familiar with the subjects I’m teaching. I really believe stress is not just a momentary thing, but it builds up and becomes chronic. Anyone else out there feeling continually stressed and anxious, take CARE of yourself. You will be around far longer than your job.
