Great Meetup at the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club: 43T-ATL Meetup v.3 | 25.Feb.06 Notes (Unabridged)

There was a sizable turnout (9) for this past weekend’s 43T Meetup! Thanks to everyone who was able to brave the disgustingly rainy weather to make it out and thanks to barbarino for the initial recommendation of the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club (EAYC) in L5P as a possible site: the side room was perfect for the group. Some incarnation or another of quesadillas became the popular item from the Yacht Club’s bar-food menu.

Thanks a ton to The Euclid Avenue Yacht Club for letting me seize a giant round table all to myself as the rest of the gang gradually rolled in. Thanks especially to our rad server who took our soon-to-be-posted group pic, and to the nice chef who wanted to make sure everyone’s quesadilla was, in fact, a high quality quesadilla.

Good things, those high quality quesadillas.

This 3rd 43T Meetup brought us all into the company of the likes of mingaling, Koukla_sou & husband, amymel, Aaron066, Gbear, and bluepark & husband. Those unable to make this one missed out on, among other things, a highly philosophical discussion about the benefits of karaoke. Everyone who made it was easygoing and it made for a very chill and entertaining night.

The award for “I’ve Made 100% of all the 43T-ATL Meetings of all Time” goes to Koukla_sou

As I will be accepting a position with work in Connecticut in March, this was my last official 43T Meetup for the ATL, but I hope to continue seeing it grow & hang out whenever I’m back in town! Gbear and mingaling have expressed interest in organizing the next one so everyone get your singing voices ready.

For those of you still deciding whether or not to come hang out, don’t even think twice. There’s a great group of unique and talented individuals just waiting to meet you and your 43 Things. We should be so lucky.

Good luck & keep going!

Austin

Thanks, Java Monkey!

Big thanks to Java Monkey for letting us horde the tables in the back room (and for the nifty Leaning Table of Pisa which miraculously didn’t contribute to any unwanted caffeine spillage), and for being such gracious hosts.

To those that couldn’t make it: we talked about you behind your backs.

But in a good way.

We hope to have so many people at the next event that thatgirlsab will be forced to break out the wide angle lens.

Java Monkey, part II

If you’ve listed interest in a previous post (I scanned through and saw a couple of names that had wanted to come, but haven’t re-posted) just let me know so I can make your nametag (and so we know how many people to expect).

Thanks & Happy Friday everyone.
Austin

Java Monkey, Sunday 2:00pm, 43ThingsAtlanta!

Hi gang,

Our “final” headcount of respondents is 13 people, which is probably just the right level of coziness for Java Monkey, given other Monkey patrons that may be there on a Sunday afternoon. The people coming are:

alltwistedup
AustinSLin
barbarino
ChiKa_US
GINASOMEBODY
Jessica_Pierce
kmslat
Koukla_sou
Law_of_Baron
Nikster
paulclark
thatgirlsab
timdorr

If you haven’t yet emailed me your “Thing” for your nametag, please do so by noon on Saturday. ASL@AustinSLin.com

If you’re running late just look for the crowd of name-tagged people huddling around the tiny round tables.

If things get to zany, we’ll all parade over to Carpe Diem (not to be confused with Cafe Diem, which is near Va-Hi) in the Icehouse Lofts. That is, if you arrive and it’s after 2pm and no one’s there, you’ll know we’ve been expelled to Carpe Diem.

Look forward to meeting everyone!

Headcount @ 11 so far

Confirmed “Yes I’m Coming to Hang Out on Sunday with the Cool 43Things Denizens of Atlanta”

Headhunt.

Hey gang,

Just spoke with the nice folks at Carpe Diem—-unless we request a private room or something, the process is pretty straightforward. We just need to let them know what time and how many are coming.

The emphasis on “how many” so they can get the tables shuffled in due course.

Just from perusing the list, it looks like the definites so far (from the best of my interpretations of the postings) are:

thatgirlsab
timdorr
Jessica_Pierce
Nikster
Law_of_Baron
ChiKa_US
barbarino

Which, including yours truly, makes 8.

If you’re definitely interested in the meetup and your name’s not listed, just post a confirmation :)

If the group stays small, Java Monkey will still be viable, but I guess headcount is still key, regardless.

Happy Friday.
Austin

Logistics & Labels.

I’m excited about the meetup—I can help out with the nametags/name labels. If no one else has jumped in yet, email me your name and the “Thing” of your 43 Things that you want to appear and I’ll get working on it.

Also—I know Java Monkey has been the accepted site thusfar, but say optimistically, all 30+ of us show up, despite the friendly coziness that will inevitably ensue, I’m sure there will be some fire hazard code thing that we’ll be violating.
Of course, I suppose we could all squeeze into the outdoor patio. Thoughts?

cheers,
ASL@AustinSLin.com
