It just cost about $200 for this salad. $40 for the raised bed, $130 for the organic soil, add in the water, love and time – $30 more.
Today I’ve harvested my first vegetable garden this afternoon. I will reap the bounty which consist of kale, red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce, spinach and cilantro. The basil did not survive and died off after the first winter chill. The carrots are not yet ready for harvesting. We pulled one out today and it was a small stub of a vegetable. I was eager to eat it right away so after work i enthusiastically washed a portion of the lettuce and rushed to my brothers house to make a salad to go with left over Christmas eggplant parm. Nothing more satisfying then to nurse something from seed and then eat what you’ve worked so hard for.
The Garden is doing great. I tend to it everyday. It’s very relaxing and keeps me grounded. I’ll mark this goal complete once I harvest and eat the yummy herbs and vegetables.
Bought a raised bed tonight. I assembled it and should be ready for transferring the vegetables sprouts this weekend.
The raised bed was on sale at Lowes for $37. Original price was $107.
I had to move the pots in an area where they can get maximum sun exposure. they need at least 8 hours in the sun. i water every other day. the cilantro was the last to sprout. you can’t see it from this pic but there are two little ones in the cilantro pot. the kale and the basil are doing the best. carrots and spinach are also growing healthy. i will need to find a bigger home for them as its getting crowded in their pots. thinning should be done soon.
He’s my first attempt to growing something from seeds. Yesterday i planted some Basil, Kale, Carrots, Spinach and Cilantro seeds. According to the packet, these should do well for fall. I used organic soil and sprinkled some gold dust. Cross your fingers. I hope they germinate.
