Learn another language

started with NPR’s “This American Life”, then “Meet the Press” and now “Coffee Break Spanish”. It’s a little more basic than what I need, but I like the fact that the hosts have Scottish accents, but they’re speaking spanish. Silly silly, I hope it gets more advanced, cuz I really like it.

I bought a very small conversation Russian kit at the flea market on friday. After listening to it for a few days while driving the car, i realized a number of things: 1. Russian sounds like an alien spoke into a tape recorder and then played the recording backwards. 2. I like sounding like a backwards alien. Russian was nowhere on my list of langages to learn, but it’d still be neat to learn to say some stuff in russian. Maybe some key useful phrases, and then a couple of russian proverbs to dazzle to listener with my intellectual knowledge while simulatneously bludgeoning them with my awful pronunciation.

Haven’t heard back form the potential penpal from Spain, but I have taken it upon myself to write up flashcards for some basic ITalian words, and I walk around the house pointing to things and atttempting to dredge up their italian names from my brain. I figure I can learn Italian and Spanish side by side, everyone says they’re so similar, and I already know a decent amount of Spanish vocabulary, I’ll pratice each english word with Spanish and Italian translation. Wish I was gettin some language courses for christmas tho, how dorky does that sound ?

Woo hoo!! Mario from BArcelona just wrote me an email saying he will help me learn spanish if i help him learn english. Shoul di feel like a cheater cuz I ran my english email thru altavista’s babelfish to make it spanish so he could read it? Or can I just chalk that up to the learning process?
