My Aunt recently went into the hospital for a kidney transplant after struggling with Lupus for 15 years and kidney failure for a year. It didn’t go as well as we thought it would and as of today, she’s been in the hospital for two weeks.
She says she isn’t even craving cigarettes and that she thinks she won’t have a problem staying off them as long as we take the cartons out of her house before she gets home.
I can’t check this off my list yet- we’ll have to see how it goes after she comes home, but I really hope this works.

My aunt is having a transplant this week. Since she won’t be able to smoke for about two weeks while in the hospital, I told her it would be an ideal time to quit. Fingers crossed.

finished a chapter in Psychology on substance abuse and I read that nicotine is as addictive as heroin, if not more. However, the withdrawal symptoms are not nearly as bad as someone with a heroin addiction, of course.
My Psych book includes a fairly successful therapy called rapid smoking, a form of aversion therapy in which a smoker sits inside a closed room and puffs and puffs on a cigarette as often as he/she can until they begin to feel ill as though they could not take another puff. The feeling of illness then becomes associated with smoking and the smoker develops an aversion toward cigarettes.
