This started as an idea

I had to change my habits, but once I did it was easy.
The end result is, that not only am I not buying this stuff, I am also not eating as much. My cravings for bread have gone down quite a bit as well as my daily consumption of jam.
Both of those things moved from ordinary to special, but I also think without the corn syrup and other additives they are not nearly as addictive!

Extra bonus: less enviromental impact.

Going to add tortillas to my list

I’ve mastered pita, and I can make pretty darn good (flour)tortillas I just need to get the thickness even, I’m even going to move crackers to this list. The result, is if I don’t want it bad enough to make it, then I am not eating it. Sweets are on here too…with the exception so far of ice cream and mints…even though both should be on the make-your-own list…

I'm really proud of myself

My refrigerator has hardly any “brand” name things in it. There’s the milk (for the kid), butter and a few lingering condiments (siracha, yellow mustard, ketchup). Just about everything in there is a whole food ingredient or something I made myself. Yay!

Made hot sauce

It was something I had to wait for my daughter to be gone for AND for it to be warm enough out to have the doors open (I didn’t actually wait for the warm day, but was Seriously glad the doors where open!).

It was beyond simple. I am currently letting it ferment to see if it takes the heat down a notch. This stuff is HOT.

I haven't bought sandwich bread or jam since I started this...

I did buy a couple of french loafs for use in other recipes just out of sheer laziness, but I finally mastered a crusty Italian bread so maybe I won’t even have to do that anymore. I don’t typically buy many condiments so I can’t say not buying them is much of an accomplishment but at some point I’m going to run out of mustard or ketchup and faced with the prospect of making it from scratch…
I have not bought a single jar of jam since I started making my own, they haven’t all been successes but they have been made by my own hands…
