Went camping in subzero degree weather…woke up to a snowstorm, and our crew had to leave our work project a day early because the weather was just gonna get worse.
Also, worked on maintaining a dam that was built by the CCC in the 20s…new for me!

can’t think of very many right now though.
I quit smoking a few days ago, it seems new, not very fulfilling at the moment though…I guess it will be in the long run.
Umm also my crew at Montana Conservation Corps has been working in Lamar Valley, Yellowstone the last few weeks, which is 10 miles into the backcountry, and that’s the farthest in the backcountry I’ve ever hiked and camped for a long time and built trail in…so that’s pretty cool and new.
And our first week we got to stay at a ranger cabin there, or at least keep all our food and make meals in the cabin, it’s too small for all of us to sleep in so we used our tents…but it was a really awesome cabin, quite new and quite fulfilling. There’s journals in there, rangers have to write in it every time they stay there, and some of the journals date back to the 60s…its pretty cool. And inside a cupboard people have scratched and written their names, and the oldest one has the date 1934 next to it.
Speaking of old old things, our Yellowstone contact the trail we’re working on, Miller Creek Trail, was built in the 1850s I believe, and around this trail, the American army tried to pursue Chief Joseph but he got away somewhere in Lamar Valley.
So that’s really cool too.
Road trippp!!
Some crewmembers of mine and I drove to Olympic National Park in Washington over our break from work…I haven’t been on (m)any real road trips, so that’s +1 for new. Also, it was fulfilling as hell!! So much intense madness went down…to summarize:sprinting across phosphorescent beaches in foggy nighttimes, climbing a mountain island that had no trail, hot springs, sleeping with baby skunks, occasional marihuana and alcohol, and etc.
but anyway, it was the awesomest vacation of my life.
woot woot.
Next break, in 8 days or so, we’re planning to go camping in Zion Park in Utah…yee!
living in the backcountry of Yellowstone park for 8 days…it was AMAZING! My crew is rerouting a trail called Fan Creek, for one mile, because beavers built a dam that flooded a lot of the old trail. We had to wade through the creek, about two feet deep and running pretty fast, about twenty feet across. From the trail we’re building, on top of a ridge above a valley, we saw all sorts of animals, we saw one grizzly bear walking around, and three moose running and playing, it was beautiful. Also some thunderstorms, really intense. Anyway, we’re going back in a week to finish the trail, my crew is going to spend the next month or so in Yellowstone, every other week. Hard to believe this counts as work, it’s too much fun….
