“Naked” by David Sedaris Next
A halarious memoir, if you like memoirs. It actually almost had me convinced I would like to check out a nudist colony.

“These bones are not my child’s” by Toni Cade-Bambara
A very LONG novel about the Altanta murders in the 60s/70s, very good if you like the writing style of Toni Morrison.

“Passion and Purity” by Elisabeth Elliot
Convicting? yes. Ridiculous? yes. A story of passion and purity told by a woman who waited five years for her love and him for her, never having touched each other. Their struggles shown in journal entrys, poetry and letters. Irritating and inspiring.

Beloved – Toni Morrison

yeah… I know I’m crawling slowly

The Bell- Iris Murdoch

lengthy, entertaining, classic, not to easy, not to difficult.

“The Life God Blesses: Weathering the Storms of Life that threaten the Soul”, by Gordon McDougal: I didn’t like the cover but it was on my bosses coffee table so I eventually picked it up. I was pleasently surprised by it and I think I’m going to pick up a copy for myself. It’s filled with truth and McDougal uses creative analogies, brings to life lost quotes, stories and scripture.

“I kissed dating goodbye” by Joshua Harris: If you have a problem with the dating system this is a good book, it’s geared toward high schoolers and I read it a long time ago but I wanted tp re-read it to see if/how much I still agreed with it. It’s an honest, genuine and noble look at relationships and there purpose. Don’t read it if you aren’t trying to humble yourself.

“Welding with Children” by Tim Gautreaux: A collection of stories that tell tales of family, sin and redemption. All the stories involve people in the same town. Sometimes the characters overlap, sometimes the stories take you out of town. They never end “happily ever after” yet it’s a nice does of redemption within quirky reality. Sometimes I was left in reflection and sometimes I was laughing out loud.

more books... I think I forgot some 3 years ago

June:

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: It’s short and a much quicker read than I usually like. It’s also an easy read… but I recommend reading between the lines and taking your time because it’s packed with a message about life and discovering your dreams – this is actually important – what are your dreams?

What to Expect When your Expecting by some woman: A must read for pregnant woman and it wouldn’t hurt for guys associated with pregnant woman to look over either!

I have been keeping track:

1. Cry, The Beloved Country – Alan Paton. I dug it. Well written. If you have an interest in South African History, this is compelling story on a personal level.

2. Wide My World, Narrow My Bed – Luci Swindoll. I read it because I was bored at work and it was there. It’s about all the things you can do if you never marry. I want to get married one day, but I got a good list of ‘should read classics’ out of here.

3. The Autobiography of MalcombX. Good book. I found I had many misconceptions about this man. I think anyone coming from any perspective can learn from this book, but then again I live to hear other peoples life story.

4. The Big Picture- Ben Carson. A must read if you are raised in Detroit or living in Detroit or you were born in Detroit. He’s our hero and he’s brilliant and his life was a TRUE success by any definition.

5.Caucasia – Danzy Senna. If you’ve read “Middlesex” and like it, or like coming of age tales this is a good one. It’s set in the seventies and is told through the eyes of a mulatto child torn away from her father because of racial tension and goes underground with her mother to escape the FBI. Well researched.

6.The Criss Cross – Crystal Winslow. I bought this book at the bookstore cause it was on sale and I don’t know what I was thinking. Don’t read it unless you like yucky novels.

7. Black Like Me- John Griffen. Brilliant. A white writer used a combination of medication and dye to become a black man and travel the south during the early 60’s. Brave Soul. Amazing Story. Eye opening. Quick read.
