I have two younger ones. They are 4 and 6 years younger than me. It’s difficult because I’m a very loving person, and I’ve always been that way…so sometimes when I’m goofing off they think I’m invading their personal space…which I feel that a hug or a pat on the back…etc. aren’t anything more than friendly. But they insist that they don’t want to talk to me. They never answer my questions which include simple ones like ‘how was your day’....they wonder why I ask them. And then we have our moments when we laugh uncontrollably… and everything is fine.
Aaron uses his age to benefit him in a given situation…for instance if he is told to do something like a chore, he’ll say well I’m the youngest though…and then when we’re all riding in the car I’ll call dibs on the front seat and because I’m the oldest, he’ll explain that age shouldn’t be a factor for who gets the front seat. He’ll also try to act knowledgeable…much more than he is. It’s just difficult because I’m 21 and I’m concerned that if I don’t make an effort now, it’s going to be too late.
Kevin is a little better. He doesn’t like to share much with me. Especially things about his girlfriend. Which I think is weird because they’ve been together for over a year. But I guess that’s what puberty is all about…steering away from your family and trying to figure out yourself and your friends.
