I’m not to keen on the science-ifying of the sport, to me it’s more about the nature and personal skill of it. By that I mean using a yew longbow or bamboo flatbow is more the sort of thing in which I’m interested, rather than a modern weighted compound/graphite-type bow, which to me is more of a simple shooting machine.
I’m not at all interested in hunting with it, although I realise that if I became proficient enough and somehow became stranded in the forest with a bow, I’d be able to survive somewhat.
I remember the first time I ever shot a bow: it was on a summer camp about 15 years ago. I pulled the bowstring back, let loose the missile, and hit the hay target on the small + in the exact centre. I was most impressed (as were several bystanders) and completely failed to follow through with anything that even remotely looked like skill. Oh well.
