Today, managed to wear contacts for 4+ hours. Outside of the house for the first time. It wasn’t a pretty sight. But, some progress!

I guess this is one of the goals which would really profit from being made S.M.A.R.T., because I always postpone it. I still haven’t gotten a new pair of glasses and still haven’t worn my hard contact lenses around the house enough times to get used to them. Of course, I therefore also didn’t dare wear them for the two plays we went to see in the past week, and had to live with the fact that the actors’ faces were a bit blurry.
I wear them right now and hope to be able to do for more than just one or two hours. It feels very uncomfortable, but my doctor told me this would take time. And he told me back in April. Oh, oh, oh.
I threw my last pair of soft lenses out – good-bye for the rest of this incarnation? – and tried my hard contact lenses on yesterday and again today. I have to to overcome my fear of those things! But – ouch. And the energy-efficient lamp in the kitchen sucks. Or is it that cheap hand-held mirror’s fault? Seriously considering laser treatment.
The eyes are better. Not so much computer work and lots of mini-breaks. Or people-watching (400 people and more in this library). I’m such a slacker. I still wear the soft lenses and still haven’t gone shopping for glasses, mostly because I forgot about it. Maybe I can bring myself to go into one of those stores if I think of it as “shopping”...
I forced myself to wear the new, hard contacts tonight, high time after thirty days during which I couldn’t be bothered, the light wasn’t right, my eyes were too red, etc. Managed to keep them in for two hours tonight while cooking, and then removed them with the help of that little rubber device. It worked! (I still shy away from that other procedure that includes pressing one’s eyelids – don’t get it at all.)
My eyes are always red now. I’m looking forward to six computer-free days in Madrid.
I’ve been looking online for cool pictures of glasses. I don’t know. I don’t have the right kind of face for glasses. Hats look great on me! I’ve decided to ask people where they got their glasses from whenever I see a pair that looks good. I better go to the museum on Sunday. Or Prenzlberg. And find somebody with impeccable taste who can accompany me to a shop.
It’s my word of the week, “weird”. My eyes feel weird. I haven’t even dared to wear my new, hard contact lenses. Only put in the soft ones for two hours last night – and didn’t wore those for more than two days during the whole week. I’ve spent too many hours in front of the computer, did too little blinking. On Monday, my eyes were as red as I’ve never seen them before.
I worry. Will stop by by eye doctor on Monday.
