Binding pieces of metal together

I know ones uses glue and clamps to bind pieces of wood together. I can do this and do it right. To bind pieces of metal together, that would be a great skill to have. I don’t want a career, but to take random pieces a metal and make something, that would be nice.
To be good at welding takes practice. You don’t just pick up a torch and welding sticks and go. I’ve seen good welds and bad. The good one’s have an elegance to them; along with precision and neatness. They become art.
