On The Road

This book by Jack Kerouac was a very different book. One reviewer described as a modern ‘40’s version of Huck Finn. I thought of it as a retro version of Electric Cool-Aid Acid Test.
It made me wonder if one could travel all over the US with just $40 in your pocket, bumming rides and food, and survive. Maybe you could in the 1940’s. I used to hitch hike around in the ‘70’s.
These guys did have a wonderful time and lived life with a passion. It would have killed most people.
It is a good read, mainly because it is so radical.

I’m probably one of the few people in America that had never read this book in high school. Written in the late 40’s, the story is an interesting step back in time. And while the time setting seemed far removed from today, the story is certainly timeless.
I can see where a high schooler, or someone of any age, can relate to the story. For when one is lost, there no age limit.

This entry in the best 100 is labeled as the best graphic novel ever. Well, if it the best I would hate to read the worst. I guess as graphic novels go, it is good, but I was not impressed. It was a struggle to finish. I think the only reason I did finish it was because my son told me the ending was good and surprising.
I should have waited for the movie which comes out soon.
Well, now, on to another on the list.

I saw this list a month ago or so. It stuck me because there is a graphic novel on it, The Watchmen, and it is now being made into a movie. Graphic novel? It is really a big comic book. And my son had a copy and he liked it. So I’m reading it. So far I can’t see how it made the list, but I need to give it time.
As for the rest of the list, here is the link

And I have read a few of these books already. Maybe I need to read them again as it has been awhile for most of them
