Baby steps... 2 years ago

Spent eight hours/week the last two weeks and learned all the Basics. Received the white sash yesterday.
The next sash could be gained in no less than three months.
I aim to keep my focus going for the next three months and pledge to spend at least 8 hours in training a week during this time.

Learning from a place that uses colored sashes for ranking; I guess real kung fu doesn’t give two hoots about the color of sashes and the sashes are only there to keep the pants up. Whatever, I’m a honky and the different colors are pretty.

So what constitutes “learning” kung fu? I have decided that I will check this off when I get to the blue sash level.
This school considers this “advanced” and at that level, you’re invited to the advanced classes for weapons and sparring.
Its funny, when I took Karate years ago, they had us sparring and using weapons (not sparring with weapons) from day one. It was really instructive to spar against white belts because their technique was raw and unpredictable. It wasn’t uncommon to see a fit white belt wail on a fat brown belt trying wax on wax off kinds of blocking.
But whatever, I can wait for the blue sash. I actually had to sign a contract for six months so I guess I am not quitting early.
Its my goal to reach blue by six months.
