Okay so, I lied  — 8 months ago

I said I would go when I could do a base level of 9×1 pull ups. I still can’t imagine I am strong enough to get up the side of a wall (and still have fun). I’m working hard on the goal of 13 pull ups in a row and have promised myself I will take a beginning class in climbing when I get to this goal first.
I’m putting $5 a week in the coffee can even.

Want to be stronger first...  — 9 months ago

Yes i know, climbing is done with the legs…
So my friend told me years ago as he took me to go indoor climbing with him. He said “You’ve got really strong legs from biking everywhere, you’ll do great” and one website tries to assure people they dont have to be able to do pullups to climb well.
Whatever.
At some point these idealists have to accept the fact that hanging on the side of a slope involves the arms, wrists and hands like none other.
Maybe its because the climbing proponents want to share their passion with a greater cross section of people and dont want to scare people away but there is a minimum baseline of strength necessary and I believe it is at least the 1+ pull up range and more like 9 sets of 1 with 3 minutes in between for the requisite endurance necessary.
Well, this is my arbitrary minimum that I have established for myself( sans any scientific basis). When I reach this bare minimum I am going to try an afternoon of climbing again and really enjoy it.
