13) The Red Room by Nicci French

For some reason this book took me forever to read. I knew this even while I was thoroughly enjoying the book which surprised me. I thought the twist (which was necessary to keep it interesting) at the end was a good one, however… I thought the book could have ended a few chapters earlier. To me reading is about an imagination. I don’t need to have an author painstakingly outline every connection with an explanation. After finishing the book I was still unaware what had taken me so long. I actually felt relieved to have finished it (It took nearly 3 weeks). My boyfriend noted that he had read a few pages while I was making dinner and got to a part where one of the women says “f*ck” in the conversation. He said it didn’t seem to fit or seemed unnecessary. I’m thinking I may have had trouble with this book because a lot of the dialogue seemed unnatural and forced. Good story so I don’t know what else it could have been.
