I'm really into this 14 months ago

Si I’ve been relaxer free since May1 I am actually feeling healthier. Everyone likes my hair and I have gotten all positive comments and nothing negative. My hair is really soft and silky too now that I am using more natural products and moisturizing more often. I’ve watched many YouTube videos about natural hair and I’ve joined the Napptureality site. I visit a lot of natural hair blogs too. I also started a Fotki to share natural hair photos. Things are going great and I’m really loving my hair!

So right now I have about an inch and a half of new growth. Right now I’m styling my hair in curls so it actually looks like an afro. I used henna in my hair for strength and I’m doing hot coconut oil treatments. My hair is moisturized and looking really good. I don’t have to wait until my hair grows out before wearing it in a natural style. I feel great!

Braid-outs are the way for me 17 months ago

I think that I will transition by doing braid-outs after I wash my hair. After washing, conditioning, and detangling my hair I apply brown protein gel to sections of hair, make braids (maybe 12) and secure with ouchless elastics. I sleep with the braids in and undo them in the morning. I comb the braids out a bit and I’m left with nice waves that look natural. This is how I’m going to transition without cutting off my relaxed hair.

I'm Doing This!!! 18 months ago

I’ve decided to go natural. Its part of my process of learning my African roots and being proud of my heritage. I wrote a blog entry about it Here. Its about how I learned to go natural including links to YouTube tutorials and advice. It also includes reasons I have come up with for and against having natural hair.

I had a mild relaxer in before, but its so mild that if I don’t wrap my hair, it puffs out and looks quite natural. I have an inch of new growth so I’m not going to relax it. I also made some natural hair products and I explain the ingredients on my blog as well. If you want to do this you should definitely check out the YouTube videos and websites I mention.
