Last night I went to the dogs – literally. My friend invited me to go to the dog races at Shelbourne Park in Dublin. I don’t even think there is dog racing in Japan where I live, so I said yes because I thought it would be an interesting experience. It was even more fun that I expected. We booked a table for a set price that included admission to the track, a nice four-course dinner overlooking the track with a great view of it all, and a pamphlet with all the information – I loved reading the descriptions of the dogs in each race and their often wacky names, There were 11 races at 15-minute intervals and a woman went around to all the tables for those people who wanted to place bets. The minimum bet was two euros so I bet on each race, only spending 22 euros. I never won, but the entertainment was well worth the price. I loved hearing the cheers of other people who bet on the winning dogs. The greyhound dogs themselves were gorgeous. What a great night out – new and fulfilling!
