Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

Steps to Shifting

First and foremost the steps to shifting should not be taken lightly by anyone, what you are trying to achieve is long term and can be dangerous if you do not do the right thing, you could find yourself shifting with no control and end up hurting or even killing someone, you could also find yourself stuck in the middle of a shift and let me give a few examples of what that is like. Your teeth are fragile and have a higher chance of breaking due to the looseness of them to accommodate your shifting jaw, your muscles constantly locked up and you would be paralyzed with pain, and your back could possibly be damaged really well with half of it stretched and arched and the other half straight like a humans. So what I say here please pay attention and read carefully. I cannot say that this will work for everyone but it will give you control of your mental self and make shifting a high possibility.

Step 1: Learning to make contact with your spirit

As simple as that sounds it is very complicated to do, long hours of meditation are usually required unless you are lucky enough to be born with a strong wolf spirit as I was and given the ability at a young age. Anyone who has a strong spirit or even the ability to tap into the arts of magic will have a good chance of making contact with there spirit. I have even at times imbedded a spirit into a human to make them more then human, but only rare and extreme occasions and both parties willing to do so.

Step 2: Learning your mind and body

You must learn your capabilities and this step is usually overlooked due to the high influence of holly wood portrayal of shifting being painful but done on full moons. I can tell you that pain is the fastest way for your body to resist a shift and can end up stopping your shift or making you caught in between like in my warnings. After you can contact your spirit learn to control the energy that is has, as well as the energy your mind and body can give. As corny as this sounds you have to find the center in yourself, and tap into your own power. Connection is the key, connect the energy of your body, mind, and spirit to achieve a shift.

Step 3: Mental Shifting

The first time I can guarantee you will find yourself chewing on things, growling when frustrated and having a high appetite as well as other effects. If you have reached this stage you will find that you will see better and have a stronger instinct then ever before, your sixth sense (feral sense) will kick into a high over drive and you’ll be able to sense presence, sounds, and everything in between. How to mental shift I cannot tell you, I can only provide steps to reach you to that goal, it is up to you to learn that one, my only advice is meditation and being in the wild life helps you reach this step.

Step 4: Learning to start a shift

Once your at this step you are ready to begin a shift, first your body mind and spirit have to be one. Myself how I help start this is focus on a triangle that’s centered in my forehead, I focus all my energy there and when I shatter the triangle I can feel all the conjoined power coursing through me like pure life pumping through my vein. It is that power that when adapted and pushed right will start a shift when your body is ready to handle the stress of shifting. As much as you want to push on and shift I advice you to not shift till you can learn how to start it, and more importantly to stop it.

Step 5: Stopping a Shift

Once more this may sound simple but it is very hard if you have not practiced the before steps. If you shift fully without learning to control you risk uncontrolled shifting which is the same as the mythic tales of Werewolves shifting on full moons that would butcher towns. Part of that is true as that a wolf or any spirit is strongest when the moon is full so to shift I recommend doing it then. To stop a shift my best advice is to burn off the energy fueling your shift, this can be done by focusing on something and thrusting your energy to it, essentially wasting it. Once you learn to control your energy better you can actually store it within yourself and fuel yourself for a long while after what gets built up. Afterwards you will find yourself often groggy, dizzy, and exhausted, I recommend sleeping to avoid any situations.

Step 7: Shifting with Control

If you can follow all those steps above you will shift and shift with control. Your body will be that of a werewolf, a werefox, whatever you may be, but you will have the mind that you have right now, the ability to comprehend, to learn, to even speak if you practice with your muzzle enough. If you skip steps you will not have control and be the savage beast that preys on the weak and kills without remorse.

I do not know if I posted this before but it is dangerous to try to shift until your body is grown, many wonder why they experience so much pain and often times black out, with the body still growing like it is during puberty and other natural growth it conflicts and will even damage you permanently. So please be careful.
