Stranger

This is another goal that has been languishing for a while. I managed to revive it to some extent this week. I recently bought some artwork that I’ve really been enjoying, so I sent the artist a thankyou card. It felt a little odd to be writing to a complete stranger, but it’s something I think I would like to do more of.

Beginning.

I made a start on this yesterday. I’ve collected a whole year’s worth of thankyous that I plan to work through in one go. I haven’t quite decided yet whether to do it in yearly batches like this or whether just to do them as I go from now.

At any rate, I had fun handmaking another thank you card today. The store-bought ones I have aren’t going to last me long…

A new challenge.

I am aware that I have a lot to be grateful for. There are many people who touch my life by sending me beautiful gifts, helping me out when I need it or just being supportive. I always say a mental thank you. Sometime I even write an email. But it’s not really the same, is it?

This year I wanted to start a practice of sending out thank you cards. In fact, I already have a few I need to write. So what is holding me back? I think it has something to do with expressing myself. I’m afraid I don’t have the words to properly express my appreciation, that it will sound stilted or insincere.

But I should not let fear conquer me, especially on such a small issue. I suspect the sheer fact there was appreciation expressed matters more to a person than awkward phrasing.

At any rate, I bought some nice cards today. Time to start using them.
