Sort through all my stories and assess what further action needs to be taken with each one

More progress today. All of my old records are typed up and I have made a start on assessing where all my stories are at.

It has been slow going reading through all the old pieces and deciding what to do with them. I’m finding they’re a bit like cloth—even if you don’t like the way a piece is made up there’s always the thought in the back of your mind that you can take it apart and turn it into something else. Some prioritising is definitely going to be necessary.

I made a start on this today by dragging out my old story records. I used to keep track of the word counts of my stories, when I wrote them and where they’ve been submitted to (and which ones have been published!) but I’ve been slack in recent years. I spent a good portion of this afternoon typing up the records and updating where possible.

The next step is to actually look over all the stories I have listed and determine which of them can be submitted to publications, which need to be reworked and which need to be retired.

And also I’ll need to make sure I keep my electronic records in better shape than my paper ones ended up in. I’m confident that the change of form will make this easier.
