Female Body part II (the beauty myth) 3 years ago

This is what i remember from The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf: women have been traditionally kept under control by placing importance on their beauty: To ensure they don’t develop stupid ideas, women are expected to spend their energy and ressources on achieving an unachievable beauty ideal.

(to be fair: this also holds for men, i think the multi billion dollar beauty industry isnt gonna miss out on the guys and starts putting a lot of pressure on them… although i think men grow up seeing their body more as instruments, not as decorations – please let me know if I’m wrong guys, this is just my own theory)

Just Imagine yourself beautiful & charismatic, entrancing, mysterious, sexy, glittering…whatever you’re trying to emulate (Beats a hair cut any time!): I am convinced that a person’s appearance has 98% to do with posture, self-esteem etc…[There is this movie with Barbara Streisand where she demonstrates her “ugly-girl-face” and her “pretty-girl-face” – i saw that when i was a kid and found it true and hilarious]. And i see this in effect every day – a fact of life: when i feel good I turn heads – when i feel insecure i dont get even a second glance from no-one. note to self: this is a very important thing to remember when trying to sell lapdances. but how i can sell lapdances and be a feminist at the same time will be altogether another entry…

• i have the same body issues as anyone else and i refuse to be put down by them! And if i get upset i just lower my standards ;-)

P.S. don’t have time for ATTRACTIVE layout today. Shit!

ok, i’m not saying that it is not a good idea to have a healthy weight or to put on (even loads of glittery) make up.

What i find upsetting is the global self loathing women learn when it comes to their physiques. i used to buy into this as well, so do 99% of women i ever talked to about it. Then i heard this from a Masai woman who compared women’s bodies to trees,_ yes, trees_. You wouldn’t go around saying: this tree is prettier than that tree, would you?

people should love their bodies for what they can DO with them, not only perceive at them as decoration

my definition 3 years ago

Feminism is a confident way of being. It has nothing to do with burning bras and nothing with being reproachful about men.

It is this:
loving yourself, loving men as well as your fellow sisters ;-) Dont be a doormat to society and a slave to fashions.

be a bitch

now i only need to find a way to teach others
