When you think of volunteering many people think of going to Africa to feed the orphans, or to an Animal Shelter to feed the orphans… That is all very hands on and isn’t it noble, but what about behind the scenes? The grind of the everyday? Making the soup for the soup kitchen is rather boring and really not much in the limelight compared to turning up to feed the homeless.
This is why I put my hand up to “help” where I could with whatever I had at the time that I could do that Animals Australia needed. I have been given the privilege of assisting with their data entry needs. Privilege you say? It doesn’t sound showy like going to Africa to dig a well, but if no one sorted through hand written sheets, from those who took their time to stand on the streets and collected said sheets, they would never get onto a data base. It’s not a tedious job. It’s one that needs to be done, same as cleaning out kitty litter.
Therefore it is my honour to help them with their data entry, as that’s what they require my volunteering skills with this time. I hope more people think about doing the little things to help out as Paul Kelly sings “From little things big things grow!”
