so as if from a dream i awake midstride
not sure where I’m going
not sure where I’ve been
simply aware of the fact
that I don’t recognize my face
in the reflection of the shop window
looking forward I press on
and fall asleep again
lulled by the predictable rythme of this life
CD would rather stand, thank you. has written 6 entries about this goal
Don’t ask me to apoligize
for the seagulls cries
upon a vagrant wind and wave beaten shore
there just comes a time when the planets align
and that which you thought was yours
becomes mine.
Stepping into the sun
A moment of brilliance
A shower of sparks
Luminous blue eyes
Against stark white clouds
Smooth, soft lines of a golden complexion
Framing windows where one can see
The bright azure sky of another world
In a moment of etched perfection
Exists a vision that embodies
An ideal that can never be captured
Radiant, flashing, and momentary
I am left with no words to describe
The beauty that has passed
Before my eyes.
There is a wasp nest in my chest
Where every indignity, hurt, slight,
Insult, and frustration ever visited on me
Has grown tiny wings
As they swarm over this hive that was once a heart
With miniature pincers and toxic saliva
They have chewed away it’s pulp into paper
It’s where they live,
In this once clean and strong place
Of four chambers and defined doors
Turning it into a paper thin structure
Of hidden places and crooked passages
The home they have made for themselves.
At the slightest provocation
They swarm, an angry cloud
To settle on and sting in thousands
Even the most innocent of passers by.
A drowning man
Will grab what he can
In the effort not to drown
Will pull his savior down
Passing this life as a ghost unseen
Moving through walls of perception unnoticed
Floating down corridors of industry
Shallow breath sustains
This solitary existence
Where nothing can be acted on
Watching through shuttered windows
On a life never known
Not to feel another
To disappear at the first
Soft rays of light
Mist that burns away
No form or shape
To tie me to this world
Words soft
Echo in empty rooms
Where only I can hear
Dismal days of idle
Thoughts repressed
No actions invoke the desire
Slowly fading apparition
With no destination.
I spend my time just waiting
For the sound of your voice
Searching for your face in the crowd
Waiting for you to emerge from the shadows
I fill your time with idle chatter
Late night calls to pass the while
I can make you laugh,
I can make you smile
But in the end I only serve
As a background to your life
I spent the other night on the phone sharing some of my writing with a good friend. Of course my friend was very complimentary and supportive, but she is always that way (bless her soul). I realized that I had written all these poems yet have never shared them with others up till that point. Perhaps that is an act of mercy. Perhaps it is an act of cowardice. In thinking about it afterwards, I decided that I would put them out there, for others to comment on and hope for honest feedback. It won’t change the way I write, but it might be fun to see how others see it. I figure I’ll post a few and see how it goes.
