strange element of my relationship with books. I go to the library with a single book topic in mind. I return from the library with
2 audio books, 5 cd’s and three books on three different topics, each roughly 400 pages long.
I can’t consume all that in the two weeks that they give me. Why do I insist on checking all this out at once? Sometimes I end up reading for about 15 minutes in my car if one of the books really intrigues me. I do love that walk to the car though with all that potential just sitting in my arms waiting to be devoured.
Even though from a realistic perspective – I never get through all the material in the allotted time – I don’t think I will ever give up that habit. It just feels too good. Color me strange.

golf and my friend gave me a book to read “Who’s Your Caddy?” by Rick Reilly. I read it today and it was actually pretty funny. This also marks the first sports based book that I have ever read.
It also marks my new goal of actually reading all the books that people loan (force on me) and return them in a timely fashion.
The reason I say force is this is how it usually goes –
Me ” I saw something on topic “X” yesterday – pretty interesting how they..”
Them ” Wait a minute, I have something you’ll find interesting.” they dissappear for a minute into the other room. Return carrying a book or two.
Them ” You should read these books, they are excellent and really explain…”
Me ” I really appreciate it but I’m about 4 books back up and…”
Them (interrupting me) “Oh bullshi#, just take the book and give it back when your done – trust me – you’ll like it.”
Me “Well, if you insist.”
So – needless to say – I do the same to other people – like some literary hot potato game.

Common Sense – Thomas Paine

If you have never read it – I suggest you do. It’s only 132 pages and was published in 1776, anonymously.

If you are any admirer of logic and rhetoric – I think you will be much impressed with the clear and irrefutable argument that was written.

here thinking how attractive I find books. I don’t know what it is. I love the heft of a good book. Or the feel of that slick glossy cover, satin finish in the curl of your arm. It’s like this little package I can’t wait to open, Christmas on the shelf. It’s my companion in the waiting room – sometimes its the greatest minds that accompany me. Sometimes the books have that rough finish on the page fronts – that ragged effect created by varying the size of the pages by a fraction of an inch. I really like books with ribbon in the binding. I like the mosaic their spines create. All these things to know and learn, standing in line – simply waiting to be absorbed. Yeah. I have a thing for books.

Iliad – Homer
The Odyssey – Homer
The Aeneid – Virgil

This is in support of my epic poem goal. I find that they are actually pretty enjoyable.

My only complaint is that there isn’t a whole of lot of rhyming.

But then again, what rhymes with Trojans?

I can see why they went the way they did.

Slaughter House 5. Kurt Vonnegut. Jr. I have reread and will read again …apparently forever. So it goes.

I like to use books as jumping off points for other books. I will look for a book on the firebombing of Dresden now.

Brave New World -Aldous Huxley. Moving to the read shelf. Pass the soma by Ford.

Used to read like it was air. Now I find myself starting 3 books at a time and not finishing any of them. So I am going to start focusing. I’d like to read a book a week. A bunch of books just sitting around that I have been meaning to finish. I know that I am the only person in this unique situation. :)
