So I’m taking Level II now and still enjoying it. Unfortunately it looks like I may not be able to take Level III if they offer it right away, since it will conflict with my work schedule (once school is out I’ll be working full-time weekends). I intend to keep practicing and interacting with the deaf community until I can take Level III. There’s also a week-long immersion camp this summer that I will definitely be participating in.

I took an ASL course over the past few months. It was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed going and made some friends, as well as learned a lot about the deaf community and communication in general. On my test I got 99% – my only mistake was confusing the sign “close” for “near” – they’re practically the same sign, so I’m not too worried about it (I doubt it’d cause a terrible social faux-pas to mix them up. ;-)

They offer the Level II course this January, so I’m going to take that. Around here there are rarely enough people for level III or IV, but I’ve got my fingers crossed.

I just sent an email to the local “Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services” centre to find out about locally offered ASL courses. Cross your fingers for me!
