I AM A WILDERNESS EXPLORER!!! 6 months ago

Just returned from a great trip to Algonquin Park. What an adventure that was considering it snowed there the day before we arrived! YIKES I should have packed some warmer clothing :S (I will know for next time!). The Park was gorgeous, trees everywhere, and the only sounds are those of yourselves and the animals scurrying in the forest around you (such a change from the city!).

DAY 1: planned to wake up at 7 am (hehe we all know that didnt happen), hit the snooze and eventually crawled out of bed at 7:45
-car packed and we are ready to go at 8:45
-arrive at the visitors centre and get a map and sign the guest book :)
-check in and find our campsite
-set up!
-go exploring! Walked around the park and made our own hiking trail in the woods only to discover that there are mud monsters that eat hiking shoes and lots of animal poo to avoid stepping in!
-attempt to build a fire (in the pouring rain, for the first time lol…yep that was interesting :P)
-get the fire going and have a great night talking and eating around it!
-had a new friend, aka a hug raccoon that wouldnt leave us alone (and maybe I was a little afraid of it lol)
-sleep, at least attempt to sleep considering it dropped to around 2 degress!

DAY 2- wake up to the sound of the birds…at 5 am!
-go on a medium level hike around peck lake which was lots of fun and extremely scenic
-go for a long canoe ride around canoe lake, was a lot of fun and extremely amusing both on and off the water, the real challenge is getting in and out of the canoe without falling into the water!
-make a raging fire, likely due to the absence of the rain, grill some burgers, corn, potatoes, and steaks, oh and the marshmallows! (which i burned my mouth on and manages to get on my glasses, jacket, fingers, and face!)
-sleep, a little warmer but still freezing and there was a frost warning

DAY 3- Manage to sleep in till 10am
-pack up everything after chowing down on some breakfast
-walk down to the beach to enjoy some last minute bliss
-count bug bites! I managed only one :D
-fill out comment card and leave the park

All in all it was a great trip and I am sure I will be returning!

The days are set :) 7 months ago

June 1, 2, and 3! not too warm, but warm enough :) plus we beat the rush of all the kids getting out of school and most families vaca. Lots of canoeing and lazing around is to be done :D Algonquin park was the winner and I am sure it will be beautiful! Now to learn how to make a fire ;)

Algonquin Park it is! 9 months ago

I can’t think of a better place to do this than Algonquin Park. There are 8 camp sites to pick from and they are scattered throughout, each with their own special characteristics…its going to be hard picking which one, let alone what campsite I want! A lot of the sites have already been reserved so I need to start planning before they are all taken.

I hope to do this during the coming up summer :) Grab a blanket and find a willing friend to protect me from ‘creatures’ and I am set!
