My beginner class started on Saturday – I have three students, who are all pretty keen. We had fun playing “Wie heißt du?” and working on how to make the umlauted vowel sounds. I really enjoy teaching this class, even though it really underlines the necessity of my improving my spoken German, which is lacking!

I actually got a degree in German language and literature. That was only a few years ago. I’ve never been fluent, but I could get by and make myself understood. Now I’m teaching adult beginners at the local Saturday school and finding out how much I’ve a) forgotten and b) never really known!!! So I want to re-learn German. I want to be able to speak it, not just read it.
Has anyone else ever used the text “Blaue Blume?” Anyone else find it bizarre and strange? Not a recommendation.
