Bloating 18 months ago

I cannot get over the difference I feel when I drink soda vs when I don’t drink it. I could not button my jeans one day this week because my stomach was so bloated after just two Dr. Peppers! I’m back on cranberry juice w/ a little club soda for the fizz and sparkling water w/ lemon.

I have to say, I think it’s the fizz that I crave, plus, I do love the taste of Dr. Pepper & Squirt.

Upon reflection, my diet/healthy living goal of lasy tear (2007) fell apart when I went back on the soda this year.

Like the other posters, I don’t have it in the house anymore, but there is a vending machine with ice cold soda a minute from my desk and it’s easy for me to rationalize, “Hey, I need a pick-me-up.”

I still crave soda when I eat out. I guess I’ll just have to be more disciplined and remember what a hassle it is and how uncomfortable it feels to wear tight clothes.

Ups and Downs 19 months ago

I succumbed again to the temptations of Dr. Pepper. I know that soda, especially Dr. Pepper, Squirt, and Fresca is my gateway drug to consuming more carbs, and yet it’s so difficult to quit because I crave it so much. The more soda I drink, the more I crave carbs: the salty and then sweet, the salty, then sweet. It really is a vicious cycle.

I do enjoy sparkling water. I just need to keep it around the house, plentifully stocked, and at work, too. When I drink sparkling water or natural juices, I don’t get bloated. It seems like I have put on 5-10 pounds just by drinking soda lately, and I don’t think that’s a cop out or exaggeration. Time to get serious and feel better. No mas soda!

Fell Off the Wagon 23 months ago

I quit soda for almost a year and fell off the wagon in the summertime and of course, around the holidays. Ugh! I’m back to drinking sparkling water, water w/ lemon, and light cranberry juice and 1% milk. BUT—- whenever I eat out, especially Mexican food, I crave soda. I love Dr. Pepper!!! The problem for me is moderation, or lack thereof. Once I start the stuff, I can’t stop. i think I need some sort of hypnosis. Any ideas?

It Works 2 years ago

Haven’t had an urge for a soda in ages, or relatively speaking. Regarding the weight loss, I think not drinking any soda, I don’t care if it’s diet or regular will take the pounds off so quickly and decrease all other sugar & salt cravings. I’m proud because today we went to a Mexican food restaurant, and normally I have to have soda w/ anything spicy, and I just stuck w/ the ice water and lemon, and I was fine.

I have more energy throughout the day, and before w/ soda, I would crash around 3 PM. I am also able to fall asleep quickly at night. Maybe it’s because I have more energy during the day and exercise at night, but I really think cutting out the soda has made a world of difference. If you’re just tackling this goal, PLEASE stick with it!!!

Proud 2 years ago

Yesterday, we ate out, and normally, I’d order a Diet Coke, but I passed and stuck with the ice water. I am proud of myself, because it would have been so easy to justify the soda by thinking, it’s okay to have it when eating out, but not at home. So I just have to make a clean break. I know it’s for my betterment. I just have to keep telling myself that. Plus, I’m going to read more about the unhealthy aspects of soda. I need to get some visuals in my head to steer me away.

I hope everyone else on this page sticks with the decision as well!
