read the Harry Potter series

As a whole I found the series to be enjoyable but quite honestly do not understand the super big hype that lots of people have made about the series. Although I still question how well they will hold up to the test of time at the same level as The Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia.

Somewhere in the middle the series lost its fun playful tone at the end of The Goblet of Fire. I really had to force myself to finish The Order of the Phoenix and now I am around half way through The Half Blood Prince. An awkward place as while I am enjoying the later books a lot less than the earlier ones the desire to see it through the end to know what happens is also present

I’ll admit that when the series first came out I had little to no interest in it, although now that it has been finished and making bigger storms I figure it might be a good idea to read it. While it is clearly too soon to tell if the Harry Potter series will have the same lasting legacy as the Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Narnia, it has made a big enough impact that it might be at the level and thus a “must read” in the moment until proven otherwise by time. As an added bonus because the books are all out no waiting on my part and I can read them free of charge with borrowed copies from my younger brothers.
