have my parents respect me

I think this situation has gotten much better although I am concerned that this may be more a function of improved self-respect along with less regard for what is thought of me. It has been hard to see as my parents have gotten older that there is starting to be a little bit of a role reversal. I feel like it has come on quickly and I am anxious about new trials coming.

I passed my RD exam, so my salary will go up and I shouldn’t need my parents for anything financially anymore. I have been journaling and wishing for financial independence from them since I was 12! I’m not quite there yet, but I’ve completed the final step to be there. For some reason I am still upset that they offer so much help to my older brother (10years older!) who has had a job and a family for years now. It makes me want to keep asking for them to buy everything just like he does. But maybe our relationship will get better if they sense I don’t need them as much anymore. Gotta stop thinking such petty thoughts!
