I’ve set this one aside for a month or so. It dawned on me that I could focus on this goal over the winter months and still have plenty of time to train well for next May’s triathlon. However, my Denali extreme bike ride is coming up at the end of July and much training progress needs to be made for that endeavor. So I will temporarily shelve this goal in favor of that one and revisit this come August or September. Summer is too rare and spectacular in Alaska to spend it indoors.

Getting closer. Did 1000 yards today without any stopping at all! However, I had to break up the 500 yards freestyle with occasional back stroke to get my heart rate down. So haven’t met my criteria for determining this goal met which is – 500 CONTINUOUS yards doing freestyle with proper technique – but I’m getting closer and closer. I think another month at the most and I should have sufficient stamina.

After I’ve met this goal, I’ll probably set a goal for next year’s triathlon’s swim time and add that to my 43 things list.

Swam for 50 minutes – 1200 yards, stamina continues to build. Rest times were shorter and less frequent.

Swam for 40 minutes, with about 4 minutes total recovery time. Continuing to gain stamina. Still a long ways from my goal, however: 500 continuous yards, freestyle only, no recovery stops.

Swim Practice – 1000 yards total

200 yards breast stroke
100 yards back stroke
500 yards freestyle (had to rest between laps, so not considering this goal met yet, but stamina is definitely building, maybe another two months?)
200 yards kickboard

Swam for 30 minutes – did 750 yards, resting about every 2 laps for a few seconds.

Swam for 40 minutes, but still had to rest between laps for a few seconds. But my speed was up. My stamina was slightly better. My strokes are feeling more natural and rhythmic.

Swam for 40 minute today, but had to rest between every other lap. Problems with heart rate due to some anemia issues. Still can’t do 500 yards non-stop.
