Why not allow the free market bring home its magic ? Let wealth be the legacy of the African Renaissance. The awakening of the African giant.
If , in a market economy, the government simply allows and then protects the private ownership of property and the right to the voluntary exchange of labour, goods and services through consenting participants – would we not have a society of peace and stability within which people live their lives without fear of confiscation through taxes and expropriation for the common good? A place where willing buyers and sellers meet in an unfettered marketplace, where the value of goods and services are determined by buyers and sellers that are allowed to trade freely without subsidies and price controls, tariffs and special licences and controls to stem the free flow of ideas and goods and services – would this not be something to strive for?
If, in a free market economy people can trade with their property and labour in any way they see fit, as long as they not act in a way that would infringe on others to behave in a similar way and without force or the threat of force or acting in a fraudulent way, why would we want anything else?. A place where individuals take responsibility for their actions and cause no damage to others lives and property. Where there is a free movement of goods and services and even people between nations and states. Shouldn’t this be something to aspire to?
A society where the role of the state is not to promote the interest of any one group, where it sees its role as the protector of property rights of all and cherishes individual liberty and the rights of groups to promote their group’s ideas and ideals as long as it is done in a way that does not offend basic morals and the human and individual rights of others.
A free market where economic growth is high because of a low tax regime and solid legal system, where people spend more time and effort on creating wealth than on efforts to protect themselves from the tax authorities. Where the government upholds a policy of protecting the value of the currency and therefore takes no inflationary actions. Where nobody is granted any special privileges on the basis of race or gender and there are no special subsidies, tax consessions, import controls, tariff protections granted to favour some special interest groups. Where political power and influence is curtailed to the essential services of foreign relations, the army, the judiciary and internal safety and security.
A free market where rules are kept simple and understandable, where you would not find unrealistic building, zoning, and other restrictions on trade and costly process involved in setting up of businesses, the subdivision of land and the meeting onerous regulatory requirements when starting enterprises.
A society where the government allows communities and sub-communities a bigger say in those decisions that affect them directly. Why not free the market?
If it were not for greedy and corrupt Governments that suck the lifeblood out of the common people for ostensibly helping the downtrodden and the poor…
Liaises Faire.
I may not agree with all that ORANIA stands for – but I will stand for their right to do what they are doing!
It is a paradox that sovereign independence of a country is often accompanied by membership in various regional associations and international organizations. This limits
sovereignty. Membership to the United Nations has certain conditions to sovereignty through the obligations and international responsibilities of the UN. (see Winston P. Nagan, FRSA and Craig Hammer).
State associations with regional bodies and supranational regional compacts causes a country to relinquish some autonomy in exchange for the benefits of membership. (Examples of these would include the European Union, the African Union, and the Organization of American States).
This country will have little or now such agreements since, if not ratified by all or most ihabitants it (the government) will not have the authority to enter into such agreements on behalf of the individual citizens. The election into some form of government will not give the govermment the automatic right to act on the individual’s behalf. I can see that one would at least need a referendum in each such instance.
“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to break free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
-Emma Lazarus, The New Colossus, Engraved on the Statue of Liberty
There will be no immigration control – why should there be?
Aagh OK – we may just check if they are fleeing from INTERPOL for murder and violent crimes (not tax evasion issues, mind you).
The Individual is Sovereign in this coutry!
These are the basic guides by which individuals may live freely and in peace in this coutry:
1.Each human being is the exclusive owner of his or her life, and of all the products of that life.
2.No individual or group may initiate the use or the threat of force against another individual. Individuals may resist force against themselves with any means.
3.No obligation is binding amongst individuals except those to which they freely consent.
4.No group has more liberties than its individual members.
Implications of these guides will be:
—Freedom of speech, association, contract and movement. ·
—Recognition of theses rights of the Individual.·
—Respect for the Individual’s property rights.·
—Love for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.·
—Limiting the power of groups, governments and gangsters. ·
—Your right to resist force, theft and enslavement.·
—Reason to be used in the settlement of disputes.
This is how these will be put into practice:
—There will be no governments that can use coercion to achieve their objectives, all people will rely on persuasion and voluntary cooperation to work together.
—There will be no compulsory taxation, draft, expropriation, censorship and arbitrary arrest. All such actions conflict with this charter.
—Opponents of the status quo may not use coercion to achieve their objectives, but must rely on persuasion and cooperation, therefore bombing, kidnapping, robbery and intimidation all conflict with this charter.
—Business may not use coercion to achieve its objectives. Protective tariffs, violent cartels, abrogation of contracts, all conflict with this charter.
—Labour may not use coercion to achieve its objectives. Enforced strikes, closed shops and compulsory union membership, all conflict with this charter.
—Individuals have a right to be left alone and to keep what is rightfully their property, derived through effort, inheritance or gift. They have a right to teach their children as they wish, to freely choose where they live and work, in order to achieve the best income available.
They do NOT have a right to an education, or a house, or a job, or a living wage when these must be supplied at the expense of somebody else. All these things must be earned, not coercively taken at the expense of some other individual, no matter how well endowed
LIVE HONOURABLY, INJURE NOBODY, AND ALLOW TO EACH THEIR OWN.
This charter was adapted from the “Libertarian Charter” drafted in Johannesburg in the early 80’s by Trevor Watkins and other participants at the Chamber of Mines conference centre.
