Someday I’ll have a library room like this.
...but with more carpet, a more comfy chair and a fireplace.
...I’m not sure if I’ll ever be done with this goal. When does one officially have a personal library?
Well, I’m still buying books constantly. Over the last two years I’ve significantly bulked up in the area of cooking and recipe books, art books, home decorating books and photography books.
Unfortunately since I moved to college I have had to box up all of my books. They are now sitting boxed in alphabetical order in a very hard-to-get-to corner in my grandma’s attic.
Since I was about eleven I made it a personal goal for myself to have a private library all my own by the time I was grown up, with my own home.
There is something exciting, and even magical about having a library.
I have books that were my mom’s when she was a child, and even some that belonged to my grandma, and my great grandma. Many of the books that my mom loved, I also love now, and I want to be able to have my children (when and if I have any) love those books as well.
Many of the children’s books that I enjoyed are out of print and extremely rare and hard to get. I want to save out my favorites while I can, and own a whole collection of them, for me and my kids, and their children.
My father installed a floor to ceiling bookcase covering the length of one wall in my bedroom. It has been fun to watch it fill up.
Right now, my collection of books numbers about 450 including of all genres (mostly classics and children’s books).
