Two weeks of class left.... 2 years ago

This class has turned out to be quite challenging. I enjoy learning the language, and I can keep up with assignments and in class activities, but I don’t do so well on the tests. He only signs it once or twice for the tests, and moves to the next question too soon for me. Though I enjoy learning sign, I don’t like the actual class a whole lot. I’m really shy and we do a lot of activities and games where we interact. I get nervous every time I’m on my way to class, wondering if any of the activities are going to put me on the spot in front of the whole class. I think I could relax and learn more if I wasn’t so anxious about that.

I went ahead and signed up for the intro level ASL. I changed my degree and it’s going to take longer anyway. It’s a good thing I went for the intro class. They don’t teach traditionally, it’s by imersion. So even though I know quite a bit, it’s not the same stuff. Class started last week. I’m really enjoying it. It’s amazing how much I can understand in class, even though it is completely in Sign. Occassionally I have a “WHAT???” moment, but I’m keeping up!

I’d like for my degree to be arts, not science, which means a foreign language. I was not too thrilled, since the languages I’m interested in aren’t offered at my school (mainly Hebrew). But then I found that Sign Language is offered. I have been interested in sign language since my little brother was four and in speech therapy. We all had to learn a bit of Sign to help him communicate. The only thing is, unless I can pass the first class by testing out (I already know quite a bit), it will throw off my graduation schedule. I should have decided this sooner. The only thing I know to do is study up and find out how I can get tested.
